Blurb:

After barely surviving a shootout in New Orleans, Sidewinder medic Kelly Abbott has to suffer through a month of recovery before he can return home to Colorado. He’s not surprised when fellow Sidewinder Nick O’Flaherty stays with him in New Orleans. Nor is he surprised when Nick travels home with him to help him get back on his feet—after all, years on the same Marine Force Recon team bonded the men in ways that only bleeding for a brother can. He’s very surprised, though, when Nick humors his moment of curiosity and kisses him.

Nick knows all of Kelly’s quirks and caprices, so the kiss was a low-risk move on his part . . . or so he thought. But what should’ve been a simple moment unleashes a flood of confusing emotions and urges that neither man is prepared to address.

Now, Kelly and Nick must figure out what they mean to each other—friends and brothers in arms, or something even deeper?—before the past can come back to ruin their tenuous future.

Note: A bonus Sidewinder short story, Bait & Switch, will be included in the paperback version of Shock & Awe. The bonus story will also be available in the ebook downloads for those who do not purchase the paperback.

Review:

It’s no secret that I adore Abigail Roux, her writing and her boys. I find the Cut & Run universe one of the most captivating I have ever read and I know her books are some of the most anticipated each year by readers in the M/M genre.

Shock & Awe started out with an idea by the fans of Cut & Run after the seventh book had been released earlier this year. ESpecially then fans on Tumblr weren’t afraid to make their new discovery a well-known fact and were even more surprised to hear that the mood between Nick and Kelly hadn’t never meant to be interprented that way – in actuality, it was merely two good marine buddies being close friends.

However, the more Ms. Roux apparently thought about it, the more she started to ship it along with her readers and as such Shock & Awe was born.

We already know Kelly Abbott, everyone’s favourite Devil Doc and Stoner, and Nick O’Flaherty, the go-to guy, the best man, the best friend and the alibi. What we didn’t know and what we quickly learn is how greedy and pushy a bottom Kelly is and how rough O’Flaherty really can be.

This book is a steamy novella with all the best, which belongs in one of these. Even though the main story is only 70 pages long, we still get a lot of insight into these two Sidewinder boys’ lives and how it affected them when one of them weren’t recalled to active duty – and learning the secret one of the Sidewinders have carried around for a long time.

It’s a sweet story with none of the usual high-strung suspense and drama we’re used to from the other books and Bait & Switch is merely a continuation of the sweet and to give the reader the final say-so with these two delicious boys, who I hope to see more of.

It’s Abigail Roux’ writing when it’s best and compressed into a short form brings out all the dirty deeds in this author, who I like the more I read from here.

I know I will return to this book over and over again until the release of Ball & Chain – if only because Nick O’Flaherty truly is a beast of the best kind.

Go buy it and go read it. Half of the first month’s profits will go to One Fund Boston, so you’re also going to do a good deed, while reading the dirty one.

Seriously. Go buy this puppy already!
